From July 5th to August 12th 2022, thirteen Zhejiang University (ZJU) undergraduate students from 11 majors attended the online summer school program organized by University of California, Berkeley (UCB). The program is executed by the School of Economics of Zhejiang University, and is financially supported by ZJU Oversea Exchange Scholarship.Students could choose subjects of their own interest from more than 600 summer courses, ranging from astrophysics, digital media, international environmental politics, to academic writing and etc.
With the help of UCB's world-class faculty and teaching learning resources, ZJU students have learned a lot in their fields of interest. Zhang Yifu, a student major in Industrial Design, chose the course Sound and Music Computing with CNMAT Technology, during which he learned how to design his own unique music, and use professional tool to complete the creation. “I like listening to music and actively appreciate music, but I don’t seem to understand music and can’t tell the difference between music. I think I got to know the core of music for the first time through the course, which is the sound", Zhang said.
Xiaohan YAN from Industrial Design major chose the course - Digital Media: Foundations. "My critical thinking ability has been improved because of the diverse student background and open communication environment, which bring about cultural mixture and integration" , commented by Yan. Yuxuan ZHANG from School of Physics chose a course interdisciplinary between physics and computer science, Astronomy: Intro to Python. He was surprised by the profound database built by foreign scientists.
The Zhejiang University has been partnered with University of California, Berkerly on the summer school program for over five years. Each year ZJU has a group of around 20 undergraduate students attend the summer school program. The program enriches students’ international experiences and visions, which is also one of ZJU’s oversea training modules.
